CCD's Sparks Youth Group recently organized a donation drive to provide clothing and toiletries for New Yorkers and migrants in need.
On beautiful autumn Saturday and Sunday mornings on October 15-16, 2022, several members of the Community Church of Douglaston gathered in the front yard for the “Migrant Clothing and Toiletry Collection Drive.” The Drive was CCD’s response to the question of what shall we, as God’s people, do in response to the needs of the migrants arriving in NYC. Our church’s response was to heed the ask of the Holy Apostle Church in Manhattan who was helping the migrants who frequented their church’s ministry located near Port Authority in Manhattan.
CCD gathered donations of unisex clothing and travel-sized toiletries from 9:00 AM -10:30 AM on both days from our neighbors in Douglaston, Bayside, Little Neck and other surrounding areas. Bags and bags were collected, sorted, neatly packaged, and delivered to Holy Apostles. According to Jean and Victor who drove two cars full of donations to Holy Apostles the following Monday, the volunteers at Holy Apostles were absolutely thrilled to receive the items, emphasizing that they were especially in need of warm unisex clothing.
The needs of our city seem overwhelming at times, but we are sure that the actions we take in faith make a difference. Thank you all for helping and donating!
