Hopeful for the Future of the RCA

The Reformed Church in America (RCA), the denomination Community Church belongs to, is finding itself in a period of transitioning. I had the privilege of attending the annual General Synod meeting as a delegate from the Classis of Queens. The meeting took place in Tucson, AZ, from June 13 to 18. An important item on the agenda was to vote on how to restructure the RCA. Even though the RCA has lost a lot of churches over the last year, I came home with a sense of hope and excitement for the future of our denomination. Seeing the unity around a common vision of inclusion in the midst of great diversity for the purpose of becoming a church according to Revelation 7 church was truly inspiring.

"After this I looked, and there was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, robed in white, with palm branches in their hands.  They cried out in a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs to our God who is seated on the throne and to the Lamb!” Revelation 7:9-10 (NRSV).

Attending the meeting was a great opportunity to meet fellow believers from across the USA and Canada. We were able to build relationships and spend time in fellowship and worship. There was also time for a little relaxation, and one thing I accomplished was to hike the Finger Rock Trail located not far from where we stayed.

Please know that we are part of a small, but powerful and Spirit filled denomination, and I encourage you to read about the meeting by following the link above.
