A HOLY WEEK TO REMEMBER
This year, our Holy Week journey was a powerful testament to the vibrant life and deep faith shared here at Community Church. From the triumphant shouts of the crowd to the quiet reflection of the cross, each service offered a unique and moving way to walk alongside our Savior.
The week began with the high energy of Palm Sunday, as we waved palms and joined the "Hosanna" chorus, welcoming Jesus into Jerusalem with joyful hearts. By Holy Thursday, the atmosphere shifted to one of beautiful intimacy. Gathering in the parlor for a delicious meal, readings from scripture, singing and the Lord’s Supper, we experienced a profound sense of connection around the table. A huge thank you goes out to everyone who worked tirelessly to continue this wonderful new tradition!
On Good Friday, we transitioned to the Sanctuary for a somber and deeply moving Tenebrae service. The gradual extinguishing of candles, paired with the Passion narrative and the stirring music of our Adult Choir, left us in awe of the sacrifice made for us.
Finally, the week culminated in a glorious Easter Sunday celebration! Pastor Albert shared a powerful message that because Christ is risen, it is never too late for new life. God is already on the move, calling us beyond fear and into the transforming work of resurrection. The sanctuary was filled with joy, highlighted by the Praise Team’s moving performance of "Holy Forever," complete with a full ensemble of instruments that lifted our spirits to the rafters as we worshiped together.
All in all, it was a week that perfectly reflected the love, faith, and fellowship that make CCD so special. We are grateful for every hand that helped and every heart that joined us in this unforgettable journey of resurrection hope!
A Tenebrae service (Latin for "shadows" or "darkness") is a somber and evocative Christian devotion usually held on Good Friday. It is designed to walk worshippers through the narrative of Jesus’ passion, suffering, and death. The defining feature is the gradual extinguishing of candles following a series of scripture readings (the "Shadows"). This symbolizes the growing darkness of the world as Jesus approaches the cross and the desertion of his disciples.
